In recent months in recent months, the Malaysian Islamic Community has been more negative about MUIS. One social activist has posted several Facebook posts about the MUIS council's management. The majority of his posts are aimed at exposing the sloppy management and inefficiency of MUIS. MUIS's council of governance is a state-run agency that has a an obligation under the constitution to advise on Muslim matters. However, MUIS cannot be considered as an independent entity and could be criticised by Muslims from the local region. The administration must refund the depositors' funds to the estate and is responsible for the conduct of MUIS. In turn the MUIS's management has the power to determine the fate of Islamic institutions across a nation.

The MUIS acts as a statutory agency and does not have direct accountability to parliament. However, MUIS is governed by the Administration of Muslim Law Act. Its role is to provide advice to the President in matters related to Islam in Singapore. It also encourages activities that are consistent with Islamic practices and beliefs. Recently the MUIS has been under fire from its conduct of business. Although it was a legally-constituted organization for a time however, it has been more polarized. The leadership of the organization is mostly focused on promoting Islamic culture and religion. Its goal is to protect the interests of Singapore's Muslim community and promote Islamic values. Both organizations have collaborated throughout the years to create an effective partnership to defend the rights and concerns of Muslims in Singapore.

The Administration of Muslim Law Act regulates the MUIS. It is an independent, statutory board that advises the president of Singapore on matters related to Islam in the country. It supervises the management and maintenance of mosques across the country. It is active in supporting Islam in Singapore and promoting Islamic values and traditions. This is, in turn, beneficial to the Muslim community.

MUIS also offers a vast array of services. The ISEAS-Muis Halal Certification Strategic unit was established by MUIS in 1978. This was in response to the increasing Muis Singapore demand for Halal products as well as the need to oversee the Halal industry. MUIS is still focused on serving Muslims throughout the country in the last few years.

The new plan is being implemented in phases. The transition phase, which started on in January. 31st, will continue until June 30, 2018. All FHCBs are able to apply for recognition from the MUIS during this period. Candidates who submit their applications during this transition phase will receive temporary recognition until the full application of the scheme. Since the establishment of 1979's MUIS Haal Council, the MUIS Haal Council has served as an integral part of the governing body.
